La Fundación Síndrome de Dravet pide con urgencia a la AEMPS que acelere la llegada al mercado de los nuevos tratamientos

– La Fundación Síndrome de Dravet manifiesta la abrumadora y urgente situación que viven los pacientes con síndrome de Dravet y sus familias, y solicita ayuda a la AEMPS para acelerar la llegada al mercado de los nuevos tratamientos aprobados.

– Se pretende así aumentar las opciones de tratamiento para esta enfermedad rara, y asegurar el acceso al fármaco de todos los pacientes con síndrome de Dravet, así como la no interrupción de tratamiento —con los consecuentes efectos desastrosos que esto podría conllevar— en aquellas personas que participaron con éxito en los ensayos clínicos de fenfluramina.

Madrid, 10 de marzo de 2022.- La Fundación Síndrome de Dravet ha reclamado mediante carta formal a la Dra. María Jesús Lamas, directora de la Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios (AEMPS), la aceleración con urgencia de la llegada al mercado de la fenfluramina, un nuevo fármaco aprobado por la Comisión Europea en diciembre de 2020 y que, a pesar del tiempo pasado, aún no está disponible en el mercado español.

El síndrome de Dravet una forma rara de epilepsia crónica, incurable hasta la fecha. Es una encefalopatía grave e incapacitante que conlleva graves consecuencias neurológicas a los pacientes que la padecen, desde crisis epilépticas prolongadas y muy difíciles de controlar, hasta comorbilidades compartidas por la mayoría de pacientes como alteraciones cognitivas, problemas de conducta y del habla, alteraciones de la coordinación motora, y frecuentes infecciones de las vías respiratorias, entre otros. Además, el síndrome de Dravet tiene una alta tasa de mortalidad prematura.

Actualmente, existen tres medicamentos dirigidos a pacientes con síndrome de Dravet aprobados en Europa: el estiripentol, el cannabidiol y la fenfluramina aunque, desafortunadamente, esta última no está aún disponible en las farmacias españolas. A pesar de que el estiripentol y el cannabidiol suponen un beneficio constatado para los pacientes con síndrome de Dravet, no son completamente eficaces en la reducción de sus crisis epilépticas, y se desconoce si estos productos tienen efecto sobre las comorbilidades asociadas a la enfermedad.

Es por esto por lo que la comunidad de pacientes con Dravet todavía necesita la llegada de nuevas terapias que ayuden a mitigar o reducir completamente los síntomas de la enfermedad y, así, mejorar su calidad de vida y la de sus familias.

La fenfluramina, la cual afecta a la señalización de la serotonina y puede actuar sobre los receptores de perfil farmacológico sigma, ha mostrado una alta tasa de ausencia de crisis a largo plazo en algunos pacientes con síndrome de Dravet. En ensayos clínicos, la fenfluramina redujo sustancialmente (hasta el 75% o más) la frecuencia de crisis en estos pacientes, y parece que los fallecimientos prematuros en pacientes tratados con fenfluramina son sustancialmente menores que en pacientes que no siguen dicho tratamiento.

Además, un ensayo clínico mostró que el tratamiento con fenfluramina está asociado a una mejora en el control y flexibilidad emocional del paciente, así como en su ejecución global, y cuidadores de personas con Dravet afirman sentir menos estrés personal y familiar a causa del tratamiento del paciente con fenfluramina. Con todo ello, parece claro que la disponibilidad de fenfluramina en el mercado español supondrá una mejora en la calidad de vida de muchas personas con síndrome de Dravet y sus familias.

En España, el paso previo a la comercialización de un medicamento es la emisión por parte de la AEMPS de un informe de posicionamiento terapéutico (IPT), el cual determina el valor terapéutico añadido del nuevo medicamento, atendiendo a razones diferenciales de eficacia y seguridad comparativas frente a las alternativas farmacológicas disponibles, e identifica a aquellos grupos de pacientes para los que el acceso a una nueva opción terapéutica en el marco del Sistema Nacional de Salud sería prioritario.

El Grupo de Coordinación del Posicionamiento Terapéutico (GCPT) de la AEMPS acordó comenzar a trabajar el IPT de Fintepla, marca comercial de la fenfluramina, en su reunión del 20 de octubre de 2020, tras recibir este producto la opinión favorable del Comité de Medicamentos de Uso Humano (CHMP) de la Agencia Europea del Medicamento (EMA) solo cinco días antes. Fintepla fue autorizada para su comercialización en toda la Unión Europea el día 18 de diciembre de 2020. Desde entonces, los pacientes con síndrome de Dravet esperan que se elabore el IPT para la comercialización de la fenfluramina en territorio español.

Habiendo esta comunidad de pacientes sufrido con anterioridad el sustancial retraso de más de 2 años desde la autorización de comercialización de Epidyolex (cannabidiol) por la Comisión Europea hasta la llegada de este medicamento al mercado español, la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet lamenta en su carta a doña María Jesús Lamas la situación actual repetida, con una demora de más de 14 meses en la elaboración del borrador del IPT de Fintepla, algo que el mismo GCPT reconoce a la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet no ser lo deseable, sobre todo cuando nos referimos a un medicamento para pacientes que sufren una enfermedad rara, grave y con una alta tasa de mortalidad prematura.

 “Siendo conocedores de la importancia de una conclusión positiva del IPT para la reducción de los plazos de aprobación de precios y reembolsos en España, creemos que no debe permitirse mayor demora en la elaboración del IPT de fenfluramina, y que su llegada al mercado español debería establecerse como prioridad a partir de ahora por parte de la AEMPS”, manifestó la Dra. Elena Cardenal, directora científica de la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet. Por su parte, José Ángel Aibar, Presidente de la fundación, afirma que “solicitamos su ayuda, Sra. Directora, para que esto sea así. La comercialización de este fármaco, unida a la de Diacomit y la de Epidyolex, tendrá un impacto seguro y transformador en la vida de estos pacientes: mejorará su salud (crisis epilépticas, supervivencia y comportamiento), lo que en última instancia impactará positivamente en su calidad de vida y la de sus familias”.

Sobre el Síndrome de Dravet

El Síndrome de Dravet, también llamado epilepsia mioclónica severa de la infancia, afecta a uno de cada 16.000 nacimientos, por lo que se considera una enfermedad rara, y tiene una tasa de mortalidad de alrededor del 15 por ciento. Se origina por la mutación de un gen, el SCN1A, y comienza a manifestarse en el primer año de vida del niño, con crisis desencadenadas por fiebre seguida de una epilepsia resistente a los fármacos. Además, ocasiona graves retrasos cognitivos, motores y del habla, así como problemas conductuales.

Sobre la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet

La Fundación Síndrome de Dravet, la organización nacional de pacientes con Síndrome de Dravet, fue creada en 2011 por un grupo de padres con niños afectados por esta enfermedad rara. Su objetivo principal es el de promover y garantizar el desarrollo de la investigación en el entorno de este síndrome para conseguir avanzar en el conocimiento de sus causas, mejorar su diagnóstico y hallar fármacos y tratamientos efectivos que permitan mitigar e incluso eliminar las consecuencias de la enfermedad.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

The Dravet Syndrome Conference 2023 is organised by Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain, whose registered office is located at Calle Doctor Fleming, 30, 28036 Madrid, Spain.

The conference shall take place at the Official College of Nursing of Madrid, at Avenida de Menéndez Pelayo, 93, 28007 Madrid, Spain, on Thursday 23rd of March 2023. Attendance to this conference is free of charge, but mandatory for organisational reasons.

Participants must register online at www.dravetconference.com. Upon registration, each participant will receive an electronic confirmation by email. On-site registration will not be be possible. If a participant has not received the official email registration confirmation within 3 days, they must contact the conference secretariat at [email protected].

The conference registration includes: Attendance to all sessions, oral and visual presentations, all coffee and lunch breaks, and conference documentation with all information about the event. The registration does not include travel and accommodation costs or any other personal expenses.

Admittance to the conference without registration cannot be granted.

Conference Attendance
Upon arrival at the Official College of Nursing of Madrid the day of the event, all participants have to check-in at the onsite Conference Registration Desk. The desk will open on 23rd of March at 8:30 a.m. Upon registration onsite, the conference team will provide participants with information about the event and a badge, which should be worn visibly at all times. The personalised badge authorises participants to attend all conference sessions, and lunch and coffee breaks.

Cancellation Policy
Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain reserves the right to cancel any registration forthwith and without liability on its part in the event of any damage to, or destruction of the venue by fire, shortage of labour, strikes, industrial unrest, public health measures, or any other cause beyond the control of the Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain, which shall prevent it from performing its obligations. In these circumstances, every effort will be made to find an alternative format/venue or propose a new date for the conference. Should the conference be cancelled for any reason, airfares, hotels, or other costs incurred by the participants are not reimbursed by the Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain.

Any participant is allowed to cancel his/her registration but must notify this to the conference organisers by e-mail at [email protected] within a minimum of 10 days prior the event. Failure to attend the event without prior written notification by email may incur a no-show fee, which shall cover individual organizational, material and catering costs.

Name Change
All registrations are only valid for the respective person mentioned in the form. A registered participant unable to attend the conference may nominate (free of charge) a substitute participant by notifying the conference organisers by email at [email protected] before 16th of March 2023. The procedure allows giving the last name, first name, and email address of the new participant.

Personal Data
Upon registration, the participant authorises Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain to use their personal data stated above to inform the participant of any further conferences, events, or information concerning the conference and Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain’s activities. The conference booklet online will only contain authors, titles, and affiliations of submitted abstracts, but no full abstract texts. The conference printed booklet will contain full abstract texts from all participants. Conference certificates will be sent to the participants as a PDF document upon request at [email protected]. Only the name & affiliation will be stated in the certificate, not the email addresses of the participants.

Information is collected by an automated computer system that manages registrations. Security and confidentiality are guaranteed by state-of-the-art technical tools. However, Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain declines any responsibility concerning data security transmitted through the internet.

Photography
The conference is held in public; therefore, we do not ban participants, exhibitors, partners and other companies from taking photographs of conference activities and participants, and share it via social media. By participating in the conference, you approve that general pictures will be taken and used for our Social Media output, our websites and other communication purposes. You hereby waive any right to oppose, and expressly authorise the organiser to make them available on the Internet or as it may seem fit. Author’s presentation slides shall not be photographed by any conference participant.
