Reunión Anual de Familias 2025: Un Encuentro de Esperanza y Unidad

Ayer, sábado 5 de abril de 2025, tras dos días intensos de investigación en nuestra conferencia científica internacional, la gran familia de la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet se reunió en Madrid para celebrar uno de los eventos más esperados del año: nuestra Reunión Anual de Familias. Como cada año, esta jornada fue una oportunidad inigualable para compartir experiencias, conocer los avances en investigación de la mano de expertos y fortalecer lazos dentro de nuestra comunidad.

Un espacio de encuentro e inclusión

El Colegio Rafaela Ybarra de Madrid fue el escenario donde familias de toda España y más allá se dieron cita para disfrutar de una jornada repleta de información, apoyo y conexión. Durante el evento, los asistentes pudieron conocer de primera mano los logros alcanzados por la Fundación en el último año, así como las novedades más destacadas en el ámbito social y científico relacionadas con el síndrome de Dravet. Asimismo, para garantizar que todas las familias pudieran participar, la Fundación cubrió el alojamiento de aquellas que se desplazaron desde fuera de Madrid, ofreciendo además un servicio de catering durante toda la jornada, creando un ambiente acogedor y agradable para todos los asistentes. Conscientes de la importancia de la inclusión, se dispuso de un servicio de cuidadores y actividades lúdicas para las personas con síndrome de Dravet y sus hermanos. Profesionales especializados y voluntarios se encargaron de que nuestros guerreros y sus hermanos disfrutaran de un día divertido mientras sus familias asistían a las ponencias. Asimismo, gracias a vuestra participación y a la colaboración de la Dra. Danielle Andrade (Universidad de Toronto), del equipo EITAL (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) y nuestro propio equipo científico, pudimos llevar a cabo durante la jornada tres estudios de investigación, los cuales estamos seguros de que darán sus frutos en breve.

Voces expertas al servicio de las familias

La reunión contó con la participación de expertos en sus respectivos campos que abordaron temas clave para las familias, resolviendo dudas y aportando información relevante sobre investigación, tratamientos, calidad de vida y derechos. Además, hubo espacios para el intercambio de experiencias entre familias, brindando apoyo mutuo y generando nuevas redes de contacto.

Inicio con ilusión y avances

La jornada comenzó con la bienvenida e inauguración a cargo de José Ángel Aibar, presidente de la Fundación, seguida de una emotiva presentación de las nuevas familias por parte de Amparo Bastos. José Ángel también ofreció a continuación una panorámica sobre los principales avances y novedades de la Fundación: desde todo el abanico de proyectos sociales que estamos llevando a cabo hasta las acciones para concienciar sobre el síndrome de Dravet, pasando, desde luego, por todo lo que estamos logrando en investigación con nuestro propio equipo y laboratorio científico, algo único en el mundo de las enfermedades raras.

Ponencias matutinas: Ciencia y vida cotidiana

A lo largo de la mañana, se sucedieron ponencias de gran interés. Natalia Rubio (Asociación Estatal Sexualidad y Discapacidad) abordó la sexualidad en el síndrome de Dravet, rompiendo tabúes y aportando consejos para su abordaje. Después, Cameron Metcalf (Universidad de Utah) presentó el desarrollo de una plataforma de búsqueda de fármacos para el síndrome de Dravet. Nos explicó que en los últimos años su equipo ha estado involucrado en el desarrollo de más de una decena de los fármacos anticrisis disponibles hoy en el mercado, incluyendo, por ejemplo, el cannabidiol. Gracias al modelo de ratón con síndrome de Dravet desarrollado por nuestra Fundación, su equipo prueba nuevos posibles fármacos y tratamientos futuros para el síndrome de Dravet.

A continuación, Ana Cantó, miembro de nuestro equipo científico, nos ofreció una perspectiva de las principales actualizaciones sobre investigación, desarrollo e innovación en tratamientos para el síndrome de Dravet, lo cual dio paso a la presentación de Simona Giorgi, nuestra directora científica, quien abordó el posible descubrimiento de nuevos biomarcadores a través del proyecto que estamos llevando a cabo gracias a vuestra colaboración. Asimismo, el Dr. Antonio Gil-Nagel (Hospital Ruber Internacional) presentó el estado del desarrollo de las terapias avanzadas para el síndrome de Dravet, para dar paso a Pedro Lisbona (Evidenze Group), que nos sumergió en el mundo de la inteligencia artificial y las nuevas tecnologías en la investigación, diagnóstico, tratamiento y manejo de enfermedades raras como el síndrome de Dravet.

La adolescencia es una etapa muy importante de la vida, por lo que la doctora María Lorenzo Ruiz (Hospital Puerta de Hierro) nos explicó cómo debería ser el acompañamiento de los pacientes en la transición hacia la vida adulta, presentando además la guía de transición en la que estamos trabajando desde la Fundación. Finalmente, la investigadora Cristina García Bravo (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos) nos habló sobre el impacto en los pacientes y las familias de las olas de calor en las personas con síndrome de Dravet, uno de los muchos proyectos impulsados por nuestra Fundación.

Sesiones de tarde: Planificación y apoyo

Tras un merecido descanso para el almuerzo donde pudimos interaccionar con otras familias, la tarde continuó con sesiones centradas en el día a día y en la planificación a futuro de las familias. Nicolás Martínez Fernández (Mapfre) nos ofreció una charla sobre patrimonio protegido, planes de pensiones y seguros de vida, mientras que Ainhoa Llano (ALO Psicología) abordó desde el punto de vista psicológico el cuidado diario de las personas con síndrome de Dravet, ofreciendo consejos prácticos para intentar sobrellevarlo de la mejor manera posible.

Después de un breve descanso, Paloma Martínez y Ana Isabel Sánchez (Hospital Clínico San Carlos) trataron la planificación del futuro desde el punto de vista de las trabajadoras sociales sanitarias, una figura disponible a los pacientes y a las familias que complementa la función de las trabajadoras sociales de otros ámbitos. Para finalizar la ronda de presentaciones, Bosco García de Viedma (Pelayo Abogados) nos ofreció una clase magistral sobre la planificación y gestión del testamento, con preguntas muy interesantes y pertinentes por parte de los asistentes.

Reconocimiento y clausura

La jornada culminó con un momento especial: la entrega de los Premios Dravet 2025, un reconocimiento a las personas y entidades que, con su dedicación, compromiso y esfuerzo, transforman la realidad de la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet y nuestras familias. Los galardonados de este año fueron:

  • Cameron Metcalf y al equipo del Programa ADD (Anticonvulsive Drug Development) por su trabajo en la investigación del síndrome de Dravet.
  • La familia Fernández Bertol y a toda su comunidad por su apoyo incansable.
  • El Ilustre Colegio Oficial de Enfermería de Madrid por su apoyo a nuestra causa.

Tras esto, nuestro presidente, José Ángel Aibar, clausuró la jornada, emplazando a todos a la Reunión Anual de Familias 2026, que tendrá lugar el 21 de marzo de 2026.

Un futuro brillante que construimos juntos

Desde la Fundación, queremos daros las gracias de todo corazón a las familias, ponentes, voluntarios, colaboradores y patrocinadores que habéis hecho de esta Reunión Anual de Familias 2025 un día inolvidable. Juntos, hemos tejido una red de apoyo, aprendizaje y esperanza que nos impulsa hacia adelante con más fuerza que nunca. TERMS & CONDITIONS

The Dravet Syndrome Conference 2023 is organised by Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain, whose registered office is located at Calle Doctor Fleming, 30, 28036 Madrid, Spain.

The conference shall take place at the Official College of Nursing of Madrid, at Avenida de Menéndez Pelayo, 93, 28007 Madrid, Spain, on Thursday 23rd of March 2023. Attendance to this conference is free of charge, but mandatory for organisational reasons.

Participants must register online at www.dravetconference.com. Upon registration, each participant will receive an electronic confirmation by email. On-site registration will not be be possible. If a participant has not received the official email registration confirmation within 3 days, they must contact the conference secretariat at [email protected].

The conference registration includes: Attendance to all sessions, oral and visual presentations, all coffee and lunch breaks, and conference documentation with all information about the event. The registration does not include travel and accommodation costs or any other personal expenses.

Admittance to the conference without registration cannot be granted.

Conference Attendance
Upon arrival at the Official College of Nursing of Madrid the day of the event, all participants have to check-in at the onsite Conference Registration Desk. The desk will open on 23rd of March at 8:30 a.m. Upon registration onsite, the conference team will provide participants with information about the event and a badge, which should be worn visibly at all times. The personalised badge authorises participants to attend all conference sessions, and lunch and coffee breaks.

Cancellation Policy
Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain reserves the right to cancel any registration forthwith and without liability on its part in the event of any damage to, or destruction of the venue by fire, shortage of labour, strikes, industrial unrest, public health measures, or any other cause beyond the control of the Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain, which shall prevent it from performing its obligations. In these circumstances, every effort will be made to find an alternative format/venue or propose a new date for the conference. Should the conference be cancelled for any reason, airfares, hotels, or other costs incurred by the participants are not reimbursed by the Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain.

Any participant is allowed to cancel his/her registration but must notify this to the conference organisers by e-mail at [email protected] within a minimum of 10 days prior the event. Failure to attend the event without prior written notification by email may incur a no-show fee, which shall cover individual organizational, material and catering costs.

Name Change
All registrations are only valid for the respective person mentioned in the form. A registered participant unable to attend the conference may nominate (free of charge) a substitute participant by notifying the conference organisers by email at [email protected] before 16th of March 2023. The procedure allows giving the last name, first name, and email address of the new participant.

Personal Data
Upon registration, the participant authorises Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain to use their personal data stated above to inform the participant of any further conferences, events, or information concerning the conference and Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain’s activities. The conference booklet online will only contain authors, titles, and affiliations of submitted abstracts, but no full abstract texts. The conference printed booklet will contain full abstract texts from all participants. Conference certificates will be sent to the participants as a PDF document upon request at [email protected]. Only the name & affiliation will be stated in the certificate, not the email addresses of the participants.

Information is collected by an automated computer system that manages registrations. Security and confidentiality are guaranteed by state-of-the-art technical tools. However, Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain declines any responsibility concerning data security transmitted through the internet.

Photography
The conference is held in public; therefore, we do not ban participants, exhibitors, partners and other companies from taking photographs of conference activities and participants, and share it via social media. By participating in the conference, you approve that general pictures will be taken and used for our Social Media output, our websites and other communication purposes. You hereby waive any right to oppose, and expressly authorise the organiser to make them available on the Internet or as it may seem fit. Author’s presentation slides shall not be photographed by any conference participant. 

Disclaimer
The conference organiser cannot be held responsible for any loss, injury or damage to any property, whatever the cause may be. Should, for any reason outside the organiser’s control (e.g., political or economic circumstances or a case of ‘force majeure’), the venue or speakers change, or the event be cancelled, the organiser will endeavour to reschedule, but shall not be held responsible for any costs, damages or expenses incurred by the participants. If for any reason the organiser decides to make material changes to this conference, the organiser is not responsible for airfares, hotels or other costs incurred by the participants. Should, for any reason outside the organiser’s control (e.g., political or economic circumstances or a case of ‘force majeure’), the venue or speakers change, or the event be cancelled, the organiser will endeavour to reschedule, but shall not be held responsible for any costs, damages or expenses incurred by the participants. If for any reason the organiser decides to make material changes to this conference, the organiser is not responsible for airfares, hotels or other costs incurred by the participants. The participant takes part in the conference, all tours, and trips at his own risk.
