Resumen: Reunión Anual de Familias 2023

Un año más y con mucha ilusión, este pasado sábado 25 de marzo tuvo lugar nuestra Reunión Anual de Familias en el Colegio Rafaela Ybarra, que congregó a más de 300 personas entre padres, niños, voluntarios y ponentes. En este encuentro, las familias pudieron conocer de primera mano los progresos de la Fundación, de las investigaciones en curso y las novedades en el plano social. Todo ello en un marco que permitió que las familias tuvieran la oportunidad de intercambiar experiencias con otras familias que conviven con la misma enfermedad.

Acompañados por la doctora Charlotte Dravet, la jornada comenzó con las palabras de bienvenida y agradecimiento de José Ángel Aibar, presidente de la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet, acordándose también a través de un minuto de silencio de todas las personas que por desgracia ya no están entre nosotros.

A continuación, Amparo Bastos, secretaria y miembro del Patronato, dirigió la sesión de presentación de familias, en la que conocimos alguna de las historias de las nuevas familias, incluyendo también la de una familia que se desplazó desde México para participar en nuestra jornada.

Después, de nuevo nuestro presidente José Ángel explicó cómo la Fundación sirve de catalizador para acelerar la investigación y el desarrollo de nuevos fármacos, poniendo de ejemplo mucho de los proyectos e iniciativas de investigación que estamos llevando a cabo. Hizo también una llamada a que nuevos padres se animen a colaborar en la gestión de la Fundación.

La Dra. Verónica Rivero, miembro de nuestro Comité Científico, presentó el kit de investigación de acceso abierto para el síndrome de Dravet en el que está trabajando junto a José Ángel Aibar, Lester Suarez y Jacqueline Pérez y a través del cual desde la Fundación se crearán nuevas herramientas para facilitar la investigación del síndrome de Dravet.

La Dra. Itziar Alonso-Arbiol, desde la Universidad del País Vasco, explicó el papel de los hermanos de los niños con síndrome de Dravet en las familias, compartiendo algunos aspectos positivos en hermanos no afectados y estrategias preventivas en las familias.

Tras un breve descanso, la Dra. Susana Boronat, Directora de Pediatría del Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, habló sobre las comorbilidades neuropsiquiátricas asociadas al síndrome de Dravet y sobre el Proyecto DANCE, una iniciativa de la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet enfocada a la evaluación de estos trastornos.

Desde la Universidad de Toronto (Canadá), la Dra. Danielle Andrade (Universidad de Toronto) explicó cómo mejorar la transición de la atención pediátrica a la atención de adultos. Comentó que incluso se debería comenzar a explorar desde los 12 años y compartió con nosotros algunos recursos muy útiles, los cuales nos aseguraremos de traducir al español desde la Fundación.

Enfocando la atención en la investigación en curso, la Dra. Vittoria Spinosa, Directora Científica, nos habló de todos los fármacos en camino, tanto de los fármacos como de las terapias avanzadas, las cuales representan una esperanza para la comunidad Dravet.

Desde San Francisco (EE.UU.), la Dra. Lorianne Masuoka, Directora Médica de Epygenix, nos contó específicamente la actualización clínica del ensayo clínico Argus, el cual se va a llevar a cabo en varios hospitales españoles. Por su parte, el Dr. Manuel Toledo, Coordinador de la Unidad de Epilepsia del Hospital Vall d’Hebron, compartió los avances del ensayo clínico Skyline, que también está reclutando pacientes en España.

Durante la comida pudimos conocer y compartir las experiencias de las diferentes familias en un ambiente relajado y distendido.

Una vez finalizada, el Dr. Víctor Soto (Hospital Infantil Universitario Niño Jesús) habló sobre los trastornos del sueño en el síndrome de Dravet, incidiendo que en son comunes en niños con epilepsia y síndrome de Dravet, que suelen ser infradiagnosticados y que su identificación supone una oportunidad de mejora de su epilepsia y de la calidad de vida.

Natividad López, Presidenta de AMECE, nos habló sobre el importante papel que tiene la enfermería escolar, que cubre funciones asistenciales, administrativas, docentes e investigadoras. Además, respondió a muchas de las cuestiones planteadas por las familias, también durante los descansos.

A continuación, Carla Bonafé, neuropsicóloga, habló sobre el programa de Apoyo Psicosocial de la Fundación Síndrome de Dravet, que se está llevando a cabo con la participación de familias de nuestra Fundación.

Tras un breve descanso, Ares Regué, neuropsicóloga y mamá de Athenea, nos contó su experiencia como madre y como psicóloga a través de un testimonio personal muy emotivo.

Para finalizar, nuestra Presidente, José Ángel Aibar, hizo entrega de los Premios Dravet 2023:

  • Dra. Danielle Andrade fue premiada por su gran trabajo en la investigación del síndrome de Dravet en adolescentes y adultos.
  • Amparo Bastos por su compromiso, trabajo y lucha diaria contra el síndrome de Dravet.
  • Óscar Mendoza por su colaboración en la difusión del síndrome de Dravet a través de RetoDravet.
  • Colegio Rafaela Ybarra por su apoyo a nuestra causa.

En paralelo a las charlas, los niños y adultos con síndrome de Dravet y sus hermanos pudieron disfrutar de multitud de actividades organizadas. Tuvimos la gran suerte de contar con voluntarios de diferentes asociaciones y empresas, como Nike, Circo Piruleto, Voluntarios por Madrid, Asociación AMA y Asociación ONCE. Gracias a sus actividades, los padres pudieron escuchar y aprender de las charlas y tener este espacio para sí mismos.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

The Dravet Syndrome Conference 2023 is organised by Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain, whose registered office is located at Calle Doctor Fleming, 30, 28036 Madrid, Spain.

The conference shall take place at the Official College of Nursing of Madrid, at Avenida de Menéndez Pelayo, 93, 28007 Madrid, Spain, on Thursday 23rd of March 2023. Attendance to this conference is free of charge, but mandatory for organisational reasons.

Participants must register online at www.dravetconference.com. Upon registration, each participant will receive an electronic confirmation by email. On-site registration will not be be possible. If a participant has not received the official email registration confirmation within 3 days, they must contact the conference secretariat at [email protected].

The conference registration includes: Attendance to all sessions, oral and visual presentations, all coffee and lunch breaks, and conference documentation with all information about the event. The registration does not include travel and accommodation costs or any other personal expenses.

Admittance to the conference without registration cannot be granted.

Conference Attendance
Upon arrival at the Official College of Nursing of Madrid the day of the event, all participants have to check-in at the onsite Conference Registration Desk. The desk will open on 23rd of March at 8:30 a.m. Upon registration onsite, the conference team will provide participants with information about the event and a badge, which should be worn visibly at all times. The personalised badge authorises participants to attend all conference sessions, and lunch and coffee breaks.

Cancellation Policy
Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain reserves the right to cancel any registration forthwith and without liability on its part in the event of any damage to, or destruction of the venue by fire, shortage of labour, strikes, industrial unrest, public health measures, or any other cause beyond the control of the Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain, which shall prevent it from performing its obligations. In these circumstances, every effort will be made to find an alternative format/venue or propose a new date for the conference. Should the conference be cancelled for any reason, airfares, hotels, or other costs incurred by the participants are not reimbursed by the Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain.

Any participant is allowed to cancel his/her registration but must notify this to the conference organisers by e-mail at [email protected] within a minimum of 10 days prior the event. Failure to attend the event without prior written notification by email may incur a no-show fee, which shall cover individual organizational, material and catering costs.

Name Change
All registrations are only valid for the respective person mentioned in the form. A registered participant unable to attend the conference may nominate (free of charge) a substitute participant by notifying the conference organisers by email at [email protected] before 16th of March 2023. The procedure allows giving the last name, first name, and email address of the new participant.

Personal Data
Upon registration, the participant authorises Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain to use their personal data stated above to inform the participant of any further conferences, events, or information concerning the conference and Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain’s activities. The conference booklet online will only contain authors, titles, and affiliations of submitted abstracts, but no full abstract texts. The conference printed booklet will contain full abstract texts from all participants. Conference certificates will be sent to the participants as a PDF document upon request at [email protected]. Only the name & affiliation will be stated in the certificate, not the email addresses of the participants.

Information is collected by an automated computer system that manages registrations. Security and confidentiality are guaranteed by state-of-the-art technical tools. However, Dravet Syndrome Foundation Spain declines any responsibility concerning data security transmitted through the internet.

Photography
The conference is held in public; therefore, we do not ban participants, exhibitors, partners and other companies from taking photographs of conference activities and participants, and share it via social media. By participating in the conference, you approve that general pictures will be taken and used for our Social Media output, our websites and other communication purposes. You hereby waive any right to oppose, and expressly authorise the organiser to make them available on the Internet or as it may seem fit. Author’s presentation slides shall not be photographed by any conference participant. 

Disclaimer
The conference organiser cannot be held responsible for any loss, injury or damage to any property, whatever the cause may be. Should, for any reason outside the organiser’s control (e.g., political or economic circumstances or a case of ‘force majeure’), the venue or speakers change, or the event be cancelled, the organiser will endeavour to reschedule, but shall not be held responsible for any costs, damages or expenses incurred by the participants. If for any reason the organiser decides to make material changes to this conference, the organiser is not responsible for airfares, hotels or other costs incurred by the participants.
